NISSAN REVEALS FIRST RETRO LIVERY AHEAD OF SANDOWN 500

The Kelly brothers will wear matching retro liveries for this month’s Wilson Security Sandown 500, as Nissan Motorsport pays tribute to the BRE Datsuns that dominated American Road Racing in the 1970s.

Brock Racing Enterprises (BRE), operated by American automotive designer Pete Brock, claimed SCCA and Trans Am 2.5 titles in the early 70s in a variety of racing Datsuns. That success helped establish the marque’s reputation as a performance brand outside of its homeland of Japan.

As a way of celebrating this heritage, the iconic BRE championship winning liveries have been recreated on both Rick Kelly’s #15 Sengled Racing Altima and Todd Kelly’s #7 carsales Racing Altima. The designs are the first retro liveries to be revealed by Nissan Motorsport ahead of the upcoming Wilson Security Sandown 500 – an event which carries the moniker of ‘Retro Round’.

Todd Kelly’s #7 carsales Racing Altima maintains the BRE-inspired theme, with the addition of a unique carsales design to celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary.

All drivers and co-drivers will complete a final preperation day at the factory this Tuesday ahead of the team's test session at Winton the next day.

The Pirtek Enduro Cup begins with the Wilson Security Sandown 500, 15-17 September 2017.

Todd Kelly - #7 carsales Racing
"This livery is quite special. Not only does the car celebrate Nissan’s racing past, but also this year marks carsales’ 20th anniversary. So to be able to celebrate both of these achievements at the Retro Round is really great.

“Jack has been doing a great job in the Super2 series this year. He’s also driven really well in his main game wild card appearances. So to have a young guy who is really familiar with the Altima will be beneficial for the longer races.”

Rick Kelly - #15 Sengled Racing
“The colours of the car are really iconic and really capture the spirit of the retro round. There’s been a lot to celebrate in terms of Nissan’s racing history in Australia, but this year we decided to look abroad and to their domination of American road racing in the early 70s. We’re all familiar with Australia’s Peter Brock, but America’s Pete Brock ran fast Nissans in the 60s and 70s to great success. So it’s fun to share this history with everyone.”

“David has done everything asked of him so far and I’m excited to start our enduro campaign together. This week we’ll work on driver changes and fine tuning ahead of Wednesday’s test day at Winton.”
